When I was in middle school there was this little thing called AOL Instant Messenger. At the time, teenagers were enamored with the form of communication, mostly because their parents were clueless to it. You could talk to the opposite sex with no worries of one's parents disapproving, set up a profile that had all the explicit lyrics from your favorite songs, cuss like a sailor amongst friends, and talk as late as you wanted.
